ROCKFISH VALLEY FOUNDATION
FALL PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES
September 17 at 8 am. A bird walk departing the Rockfish Valley Trail head by the bridge over the S Rockfish and RT 151 is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17th. Marshall Faintich, author of Birds of Wintergreen , Walt Childs, President of the Augusta Bird Club and Allen Hale, Nelson County supervisor will be leading the bird walk at the Rockfish Valley Trail head. September 18 at 2 pm program and dedication of Rockfish Valley GEOLOGY Trail. 2 pm at Spruce Creek Gallery with presentations by JMU geologists , field trip and dedication of trail. It includes new maps and story boards about our local geology. Discussion of the Rockfish Valley Fault , Hurricane Camille, and weathering of 14,000 foot high Blue Ridge Mountains are part of the program. October 29 at 7 pm Rockfish Valley Foundation Star Watch. Big field on Glenthorne LOOP 1/4 mile east of intersection of RT 151 and RT 627. Discussion of star watching and equipment. David Miller, John Avallone, members of the Charlottesville Astronomical Society will direct and have telescopes for viewing. Without the Moon, we will have the deep -sky objects of the Milky Way & a planet (or two or three…Jupiter + Venus + Mercury). Spruce Creek Park
Located on Glenthorne LOOP just east of RT 151 at Wintergreen . This beautifully landscaped park which connects to the Rockfish Valley Trail system has picnic tables and horseshoes. It is available for public events. The headquarters of the Rockfish Valley Foundation with informational kiosks is located there. Also there is public wifi at the historic Wintergreen Country Store building and a public broadcast weather station at www.wunderground.com under zip code 22958.
