Dear Neighbor:

This year marks the 5th anniversary of the Rockfish Valley Foundation and its first request for support of its programs. Please let me share a bit of its past success, present activities and our plans for the future. Since the ribbon cutting for the Rockfish Valley Trail system in September 2005, the programs and projects have been expanding. The Foundation has received grants from four community foundations as well as the VA Dept of Environmental Quality, the VA Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, The Chesapeake Bay Restoration Fund and most recently the VA Tourism Corporation. We have held guided birding walks, geology and Hurricane Camille programs. the bi-annual Star Watch and the annual Rockfish Valley Kite Festival. All events have been free.

As for the present, launch of our concept of the NELSON SCENIC LOOP will be Grand Discovery Days of June 11 through 13 including a program celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Blue Ridge Parkway at Skylark Farm on June 13. With each of these we seek to partner with others such as we did with the Oakland Museum for the successful program on Nelson County Country Stores at Spruce Creek Gallery. A current project you may also have heard of is our research and application to recognize a South Rockfish Rural Historic District by Virginia and the U S Dept of Interior. We are busy.

Through the generous support of Blue Wall, two informative websites are up and running. Please visit www.rockfishvalley.org and www.nelsonscenicloop.com and learn more about the undertakings of the Rockfish Valley Foundation, how to volunteer or contact us, find out about the LOOP and visit the calendar to learn about events.

This request is very important to the growth and fulfillment of the RVF mission. It will support funding for specific projects and support priorities established by the Board of Trustees when it adopts the Master Plan that is being completed by Waterstreet Studio. Please see the wish list on the reverse.

We hope that you will consider a gift and also become a volunteer. Our goal is to raise $50,000 from public and private support between now and June 30, 2011. The Foundation is a public 501c3 charitable organization recognized by the Internal Revenue Service. Thank you for your support and we welcome your involvement and advice.

Sincerely,
Peter A. Agelasto III
