FUND RAISING. Every year we have a Community Fund Drive. The 2026 is launched. The goal is $110,000 plus grants to support the new environmental education committee capacity and it’s collaboration with Nelson County schools, natural history departments of the Commonwealth and everyone who visits us.  Every year we raise funds from the community to do our work and pay our staff. In 2024 we succeeded in raising $130,000 from about 340 donations and spent it on such things as ENLIT, Spruce Creek Park and Rockfish Valley Foundation maintenance and major enhancements such as critical improvements at trail access parking,

ENLIT Loop Trail and learning pavilion were dedicated May 2 and a detailed report with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation can be found at

https://www.rockfishvalley.org/wp-content/uploads/Rockfish-News-Advance-EnLit-article.pdf

The forthcoming September newsletter will present stories about our volunteers and some new trail walk opportunities.  We celebrate all volunteers but in particular 3 whose Super Volunteers. Commonwealth of Virginia values a donor hour at over $35.  The volunteer equivalent for three RVF super volunteers  has a combined value of $30,000! Learn more in the newsletter. Thank our three major super volunteers: our treasurer, bookkeeper and a volunteer trails mower man.

PROGRAMS. Future posts will introduce walk/ talks on the ENLI T Loop for you to be exposed to more about our world of water, rocks, plants, animals, culture, and history.

PLEASE DONATE. Don’t forget to donate. The first $50 of your gift goes into a restricted fund for maintenance and repair of our facilities and entitled you to have just created bumper sticker.

OH BY THE WAY:  THE BLOOD MOON IS WHAT YOU SEE!

This Sunday night (Sept. 7-8), Earth will pass directly between the sun and the full Corn Moon to trigger the year’s second and final total lunar eclipse.

Spanning more than five hours, the celestial event will peak with an impressive 82-minute totality phase, when Earth’s massive inner shadow will plunge the moon’s entire near side into a reddish darkness — earning it the eerie nickname “blood moon.”
